The refurbished airport Viewing Gallery is proving a big hit with hundreds of visitors.
Unique as the only airport in the country with a land-side viewing area, the gallery has been receiving rave reviews on social media with visitors praising the decision to make it an even better attraction than it was in the past.
The Viewing Gallery opened in late February with a few additional attractions. Not only are there panoramic views of the apron and main runway, visitors can also eavesdrop on communications between Air Traffic Control and the cockpit as crews prepare to land or push back for taxiing. As well as that, there’s a flight tracker that shows aircraft activity.
Deborah Harris, BIA Public Relations Manager, said: “The Viewing Gallery has been an enormous attraction in the month or so it has been back in operation. Literally hundreds of ‘plane spotters have made the visit with one gentleman holding the record for the length of time he stayed – a staggering 8 hours!
“School children delight in the openness of the gallery. They’re mesmerised by all they see and I have to say it’s right up there with their visit to the Fire Station, and that’s saying something.
“The refurbishment is part of a wider and on-going investment in facilities both land-side and airside to enhance visitor and passenger experience. Visitors to the gallery don’t need to book. All you have to do is follow the signs in the arrivals area.”
