Belfast International Airport has welcomed the addition of Girona to the Ryanair list of destinations served from Northern Ireland’s main airport. The route will operate twice weekly from March, 2017
Girona will bring to 12 the number of domestic and European destinations announced by the airline since the beginning of the year.
Uel Hoey, Belfast International Airport Business Development Director, said: “Ryanair already operates Gatwick, Berlin, Malaga, Milan, Alicante and they will be followed in October and November by Krakow, Wroclaw, Lanzarote, Tenerife, Warsaw and Gdansk.
“The mix of destinations serve both outbound holiday-maker and in-bound tourists from the important German and Italian markets. We’re very pleased with the loads and, like Ryanair, we believe much more could be achieved if we didn’t have the ‘albatross’ of APD to deal with day and daily.
“Girona is further proof of Ryanair’s commitment to creating choice for Northern Ireland passengers and delivering pretty impressive growth from its new Belfast base. Once again, we will see more airline and airport-related jobs being created at no cost to the taxpayer.
“In fact, next month, we plan to hold another Jobs Fair when all of the major companies operating at the airport will set out the scale of what’s on offer. Since the turn of the year, we’ve helped to create up to 800 jobs and that trend will continue into 2017. “Remove the impediment of APD, and I’m certain that figure would increase substantially within a relatively short period of time.”
